A well known, and well used, Lincolnshire dogging hotspot has received a £40,000 Government grant.

For many years, the area of dunes behind properties in the Seacroft area of Skegness has been used by people for sex meets. The dunes even feature in the Dogging in Lincolnshire guide. Now, East Lindsey District Council has received the staggering sum of £42,290 to better manage the area.
Work is due to start on the area, which is part of Gibraltar Point nature reserve, in the New Year. The Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is visited by hundreds of people each year, mainly to watch birds. The marsh attracts many type of birds, including chiffchaffs, cuckoos and reed buntings, and later in the evening tits are plentiful. Big tits make regular appearances too, more often than not in BMWs.
A group called Friends of Seacroft Marsh was set up in May 2013 to investigate public sex gatherings in the area. Local residents often see cars pulling up during the evening, with cars regularly parked up and flashing their lights at one another to signal they are keen for people to join them. One local says the doggers’ activities are scaring some of the local birdlife, although he says his night vision binoculars have come in handy on a number of occasions.
Taling on how they are going to spend the government grant, East Lindsey district councillor Steve O’Dare said “Restoring it to typical grass covered dunes is a high priority for the government’s nature conservation advisors Natural England,” he said. “The council has to undertake the work that is planned to meet the Natural England requirements.”
Contractors will begin removing invasive buckthorn on the outer dunes next year and will trim back re-growth later. It’s nice to know tax payers money is being spent well.
