Keeping An Eye Out
A cafe owner who is based in a busy lay-by in Northamptonshire claims the pruning of trees and bushes in the area is helping to cut down the number of people involved in sexual activities.
Northamptonshire County Council has recently been spending public money on cutting back trees and foliage on the layby on the A43 near Hannington.
The local paper reported that yesterday, the owner of Neil’s Nosh cafe, on the northbound lay-by, said the trimming of bushes around the entrance to the pull-in had cut down the number of doggers stating “The number of people at the top of the lay-by has certainly gone down. When I used to leave here in the afternoon there used to be 10 or 12 cars parked up there. There is certainly not the volume of cars around now.”
That’s the cafe owners story – but according to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, over on the other side of the road, eyewitnesses claimed the problem had not gone away.
The Council Trimming Operation
Workmen were cutting back foliage on the southbound lay-by yesterday, but locals said doggers now simply walked along a public footpath to get away from the main road. The area was scattered with used condoms, empty bottles of lubricant and there was even a women’s bra dangling from a tree.
Locals told the local paper that people used the lay-bys at all times of the day and night, meeting for sex in nearby woods, in cars, in the open and in camper vans. One eyewitness said: “It is still going on. It hasn’t stopped. It is still the same people every day.”
A dogger reported that he couldn’t understand why Neil the Nosh was complaining as “after all he often got a first hand view of all the comings and goings!”
