Village councillors have asked police to step up patrols in the area around The Yorkshire Sculpture Park – a well known dogging hotspot located half way in between Wakefield and Barnsley, after they received reports from the public about naked men ‘frolicking’ in the Bretton Country Park woods nearby.
Local councillor Mike Hofton said “It’s an area a lot of people pass through because there is a back entrance to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. It’s a well-used pathway. It’s quite secluded but you can get vehicles down there.”

Councillor Hofton continued “At various times for the last three to four years now people have reported there has been adult activities going off in the the woods and reports of naked men in there. It quietened down for a while and recently restarted again.”
Councillor Hofton put the spike in activity down to the warm weather. He said that the police have been informed and they have said they are going to try and concentrate on that area, and are starting mounted patrols.””
Locals have been quick to comment with one wag saying “The police are doing mounting patrols and going in the back way??” and another saying “The folk frolicking should really get a right bollicking. But it may have been a couple of innocents alcoholicking or horlicking and perhaps risking a colicking”.
